The Magdeburg Messenger
(1632 Fiction)
This issue’s cover is from Garrett W. Vance’s story, “Ceaseless, The River Runs,” the third story in the Leaving Phnom Penh sequence. Everyone converges at the Nishioka House.
“Trudi’s Trenchers” by Gorg Huff is the story of Trudi von Bachmerin coming to Grantville, meeting the Barbies, and going into business before she appears in 1636: The Viennese Waltz.
In “Stilettos” by Bethanne Kim, an up-timer and a down-timer Interpret a statement very differently.
Eleven-year-old Sandy Eckerlin is a good cook. His new stepmother Summer is not. Marc Tyrrell shows us more of Grantville’s early days after the Ring of Fire in “Summer’s Kitchen.”
George Grant delivers more lost mail in “Mail From Up-Time, Episode 2: Atlantic Giant.”
Editor’s Notes
The State Library Papers (1632 Non-Fiction) and the Assiti Shards will be back in future issues. This one is all 1632 stories.
This is Issue 7, and it’s the first issue of our second year. Thanks to all of you, we had a very successful first year. Thank you for reading. In fact, the first year of Eric Flint’s 1632 & Beyond was so successful that, beginning with Issue 4, we increased the per-word rate we pay authors. Now, we are able to lengthen the issues from 40,000 words to 45,000 words in Issue 7 and to 50,000 words in Issue 8. Subscriptions and individual issue prices will not increase. You just get more.
